Since this is rather a bookish blog, it is no surprise that, even when I go to the museum, I take pictures of ‘things that have writing on them’…but I loved the rich colors of this painting, and the personality of the hand that is expressive of so many possibilities.

She might just be pointing out, for example, that vibrate is a Curious Word…and the secret to its charm comes from an unpronounceable Indo European root from whence comes words like vibrant, vibrato, viper, wife, womanly, wave, and whiplash.

  1. I love the explanation of this word – thank you! what was that unpronouncable info-european word? ( just wondering)
…. quite intriguing that that word led to diverse concepts as vibrant and woman ( and we wont mention whiplash!)

the painting is quite stunning, and interesting juxtaposition of the full photo in B%W at the bottom! thanks! 🙂

  2. The root is weip…and there are more variations I just put into the page Curious Word. I will keep adding to it as I go! Thank you for visiting and glad you enjoyed the word curiosities. 🙂
